Cosmetic grade talc is talc (the mineral magnesium silicate) that’s been processed and quality-controlled specifically for use in cosmetics—meaning it’s refined for things like whiteness, particle size, feel (“slip”), microbiological quality, and low levels of impurities, and asbestos-free.

Why Talc is used in cosmetics

Talc is popular because it feels silky, helps products apply smoothly, and manages moisture/oil. Common functions include:

• Absorbent (helps reduce greasiness / shine)

• Anti-caking (keeps powders free-flowing)

• Bulking / filler (adds body, improves pressability in compacts)

• Slip modifier / improves spreadability (smooth glide on skin)

• Opacifier (adds opacity/coverage)

• Skin protectant

Cosmetic products it is used in:

• Face powders, setting powders, foundations, blush, eyeshadow

• Deodorant and body powders, foot powders

• Sometimes in creams/lotions in small amounts for feel/finish
